INSTALLING AN SSL CERTIFICATE IN CWP

INSTALLING AN SSL CERTIFICATE IN CWP

Security is an important feature of any domain.

Below is a guide on how to install an SSL certificate in a CWP server.

  1)      The first step is to generate the CSR which is submitted to the CA .

Log in to CWP → Security → SSL Generator → Generate CSR and Private Key.

Submit the CSR to the CA and keep the private key somewhere to be used later.

2)      Once the certificate is issued, download it to your local computer and copy both the certificate and the intermediate certificate details

3)      Then log in to CWP control panel again.

4)      Go to Apache Settings → SSL Certificates → Manual Install

5)      Copy the certificate code you received from the CA including the —–BEGIN CERTIFICATE—– and —–END CERTIFICATE—– tags, pasting it to the ‘Certificate’ box. The code can be found in the file with .crt extension or you can copy it directly from the email you received.

6)      Paste your Private Key code into the corresponding box. It should look like a block of code with the header —–BEGIN PRIVATE KEY—– and footer —–END PRIVATE KEY—-. Please make sure to use the same Private Key code that was generated with your CSR code.

NB:If your CSR/Private Key pairing was generated in CentOS Web Panel, the key will be automatically fetched by the system when you select your domain name. If for some reason it does not happen automatically, the key can also be found via this path: File Manager -> etc -> pki -> tls -> private.

7)      Copy and paste the chain of intermediate certificates into the ‘Certificate Authority’ box. Alternatively, you can select the ‘Generate Intermediate Certificates’ button.

8)      Click the ‘Validate Certificate’ button to ensure the certificate matches the Private Key.

9)      Click ‘Save’

10)  Then go to Apache Settings → SSL Certificates → Install from server.

Select the certificate, user and  domain then click ‘Install SSL’

The SSL certificate has been installed.

You may need to update the content of the .htaccess file to manage redirection from http to https automatically.
